Ms Collins led a session today with our trainees on embedding challenge into lessons. We know challenge is the core of the growth mindset, so we encourage our teachers to learn more about their students, ask open questions and encourage students to share opinions. https://t.co/NcExxnAAyo

Creative Arts Update

Chobham Art Department Update

Lockdown hasn’t dampened Chobham student’s creativity, as students are abuzz with interesting projects, workshops, links, virtual gallery tours and imaginative responses to artworks.

Getty Museum Challenge

Chobham students have been busy taking part in the Getty Museum Challenges - recreating their favorite artworks.

Rules are;

  • Choose your favorite painting or artwork
  • Recreate the painting using three items around your house
  • Share your homage online.

    The results have been impressive here are our top three so far, sent in by Harris Williams, Azhar Shaikh and Elsie Brown - all in year seven. If you are yet to join in then there is still time to send your entries into your art teacher through SMHW. Have a look at the recreations by the staff at the National Gallery in London for further inspiration:

London School of Fashion Workshops

Our students have been working collaboratively with the London School of Fashion on a range of virtual workshops. This week’s theme was shoes and their brief was to find out more about the shoes in their house; what they look like, how they are made, why they are made in a particular way.

The ‘show and tell’ booklets will provide hours of inquiry and investigation about everyday objects you have at home. Why not have a go or share with older family members to see how their views differ on fashion to your own.

Free Creative Careers Mentoring for 16-18 year olds.

Chobham students are taking advantage of Rosetta Arts Centre fabulous opportunity, offering free creative careers mentoring. Students get 4 hours each of tailored mentoring and they don't need experience - just an interest in any area of the creative arts. Must be Newham based. If you are interested.

Rivers of the World – Arts Council Project

Chobham students have been selected to take part in Rivers of the World. Which is an international art and education project delivered in partnership with the British Council that connects pupils around the globe to their local river through environmental, economic and cultural learning and themes.

This year young people from across the UK, Morocco, Ethiopia, Sudan, Lebanon, Tanzania and India will be making artwork which will exhibited on flags in central London, next to the Tate Modern in September.

Artists will work with our students in the next few weeks to produce work remotely and submit for the autumn exhibition.
