Performing Arts Update

It has been a busy term in performing arts with lots of exams taking place.

Wednesday 26th February saw the Year 11 GCSE Drama cohort complete their component 2 exam. Students performed duologues from a number of different texts to a visiting examiner. These performances had been rehearsed  by students for around 12 weeks and count towards 20% of their final exam. Unfortunately we will not find out the results of this until August 2020, however students performances were some of the strongest I have seen in my teaching career and they should be very proud! This was followed up with a celebration trip to see Cyrano de Bergerac staring James McAvoy with many students hailing it as ‘the best thing they have ever seen!’.

This was followed by the Year 13 A-Level music exam on Monday 2nd March. We had three fabulous singers performing a recital of 12 minutes each for the Eduqas examiner, which makes up 35% of their A-Level. Repertoire included ‘Dido’s Lament’ by Purcell, ‘If I didn’t believe in you’ by Jason Robert Brown, ‘Turning tables’ by Adele and many more pieces across a variety of styles and genres. The students did a brilliant job, drawing the audience into different musical worlds and performing to an exceptionally high standard. They did themselves proud.

Next up we have the Year 13 A-Level Drama exam taking place on Monday 16th March. Similarly to the GCSE in Drama, this is worth 20% of the final A-Level and will be assessed by a visiting examiner from Edexcel. Students will each perform a monologue lasting 2-3minutes, followed by a scripted group performance based on the play Attempts on Her Life by Martin Crimp.  They will have a mock performance of this on Tuesday 10th March at 16:30 where friends and family can attend.
